RIM is introducing two new elements with the Playbook, a new operating system and new hardware in a different sector. There's a lot of “new” here. The hardware has great specs and the operating system is fast and stable, which means it's only going to get better as it’s refined as more and more features are added. It's a new race for Blackberry and with the Playbook they've come out of the starting gate sprinting. The RIM Blackberry Playbook is introduced as the first “professional tablet” keeping with the Blackberry’s heavy usage in the business world. The specs are hot enough to interest both consumers and business users. The Blackberry Playbook features a 7 inch capacitive LCD display with resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Instead of the new Blackberry 6 OS, a new tablet version of the Blackberry software devised by the recently acquired QNX is running the show. The tablet will have some power under the hood with a 1GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM on board. There are two cameras; the front facing shooter is 3MP and a 5MP on back. As it was rumored earlier, it turns out that the QNX OS found on the upcoming Blackberry Playbook will be more than compatible with the apps, developed for Android. Developers will simply have to "repackage code sign and submit" their apps for approval to be posted on Blackberry App World, RIM's application storefront. The same goes for Java apps previously designed to run on Blackberry OS. The downside is, it doesn’t even come with 3G wireless just WiFi.
The RIM Blackberry Playbook is currently scheduled to come out on April 19, 2011, but the Android and Java app emulators are expected to be available sometime in the summer.
With its dual core processor, it should be stable enough thanks to the QNX OS. Consumers expect RIM to deliver a super polished user experience with the Playbook. With the display, colors should be bright with the touch screen performance should be excellent. Users should experience super fast and super smooth reflexes. Yes, it’s very “iPhone/iPad” like in terms of use, when talking about the smoothness, it should be because of the GPU on the processor. Tablets are better than phones, before, a tablet was too big to carry, but with the Blackberry Playbook, it would be a different experience for all since it fits everywhere so easily. Because of its size, it’s easier to bring everywhere and you will want to protect it with Best Skins Ever’s Blackberry Playbook transparent skins.
