Samsung Intercept Clear Protective Skins

As you have probably noticed, Android smartphones have taken the market by storm. Most of the buzz has been around glossy, gigahertz "super-phones." However, the new Samsung Intercept, SGH-M910, offers much of the same power. It lacks any distinguishing features but consider it a workhorse Android phone for the budget-minded. While the Intercept might not be enough to catch the eye of a seasoned smartphone user, many find it quite refreshing to hear many positive comments from teens and adults about the design and feature set. The Intercept looks quite generic. It could be any number of slider smartphones from the past several years. It measures 4.4 by 2.2 by 0.6 inches (HWD) and weighs 4.9 ounces. That's not huge for a phone with a big, slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Keep your Samsung Intercept protected with Samsung Intercept clear protective skins from Best Skins Ever.

Out of the box, the Intercept works like a standard Android 2.1 device. It hooks into various e-mail accounts, and syncs e-mail, calendar, and contacts with Exchange and Outlook. It uses a separate program and icon to check Gmail accounts. ThinkFree Office (not Quickoffice) offers basic Word and Excel document viewing and editing.

Samsung Intercept Keyboard Design and Functionality

The Intercept's QWERTY keyboard is one of its best features. Every Samsung Intercept has a slide out keyboard with four rows of letters, numbers, and shortcuts. The keys are spaced out to prevent your thumbs hitting multiple keys and to make texting fast and easy. The keyboard was a feature that many people said made the Intercept a likable device.

Buttons worth Protecting with a Samsung Intercept Transparent Skin

Below the screen is a touch-sensitive area of the four command buttons (Menu, Home, Search, and Back). These buttons were probably the most disappointing aspects of the Intercept in that they would not always activate when pressed or there would be a delay for the task to occur. It was enough to make me put the device down several times. Below that strip are the Call, End/Power buttons and a directional pad. The volume buttons (left side) and camera button (right side-bottom) are designed not to be unintentionally pressed, and they performed well in that role. Tucked away on the bottom left is a memory card slot with a 2 GB microSDHC memory card inside. The top of the Instinct has the microUSB jack used for PC data connectivity and charging. The top right side of the Intercept has a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Performance of the Samsung Intercept

The Samsung Intercept runs Google's Android OS 2.1 (also known as Éclair). Unlike many devices from this company, it does not have Samsung's TouchWiz interface, but does have a number of widgets -- and three home screens to customize the experience.

Customization options are minor.  You'll immediately notice Sprint includes Sprint TV, Nascar Sprint Cup Mobile, Sprint Football Live, and Sprint Zone.  Sprint Navigation isn't installed on the Intercept and my initial thought is that Sprint realized the redundancy of having Sprint Navigation and Google Maps on the same device. Samsung Intercept Call Quality and Other Specs

The Samsung Intercept offers access to Sprint's 3G network (EV-DO Rev. 0) and includes Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth, and a GPS receiver. Call quality was in the excellent to decent range. The phone application is simple, showing a black-on-white contrast and four easy access icons to the keypad, call log, favorites, and contacts. I had a friend who has trouble with seeing and using the keypad of various mobile devices, and he commented that this was definitely an improvement due to the text size, contrast, and vibration feedback.

If you're not using it like a Smartphone master, then expect to take two days to get used to it -- without too many calls or continual data sessions over Wi-Fi. I am very impressed, constantly. It is a good thing to have a mobile device that you just pick up and use without worrying about battery life.
